Hello everyone, Dear friends, let me introduce my model of Spanish galleon building log, actually I'd like to position it as galleon of Armada campaign in 1588, so instead of maker name Spanish galleon 1607, I call it Spanish galleon 1588 This is plastic kit by LEE, scale 1:100 , as I understood it is "clone" of wooden model created by Vincenzo Lusci and his vision of spanish galleon of 1607,which is a little bit strange and disproportional looks, but lovely :)! I've started to assemble this model long time ago- 2009,due to lack of time building goes extremely slowly, can do it 2-3 month per year , and only during this "season ",last two months I finally reached "rigging" stage and started rigging spritsail ...for me it is most interesting part of this kit assembling! During assembling hull,in the begining, I used ordinary (not spesial for plastic models painting)artist acrylic paints and dry artist pastel for making tone/aging...later on,during masts and spars painting I started to use acrylic paint "folk arts" as well... Some additions which I made for this model, I've made from plastic telephone cards, paper, and various plastic remains which I could find , like a food container etc... For rigging I use ordinary polyester thread Gutermann ,actually this not a good choice ,due to their wrong appearance and with my next project I plan to buy or fabricate by myself some kind of rope making machine On the fotoes You can see progress of this model building since the time when hull was assembled and generally painted(I didn't make fotoes on this stage) ,than I decided to add some sturn decoration ,and to make some more small additions....than more ...and more :))) Rigging plan I've made my own due to kit rigging plan I consider as too primitive and not accurate, rigging plan I've tried to develope using book " The rigging of ships. In the days of the Spritsail topmast 1600-1720 - Anderson" ,Peter Kirsch "The Galleon the great ships of the armada era" and information which I could foun in the famous book "The Royal Warship Vasa" I guess I've made not too much mistakes in my rigging plan, but fior sure I did... anyway this was only plan which I have...so pls consider it like my interpretation of Spanish galleon rigging Remaining parts of rigging and sails will be done during next couple of years(during my vacations)... Recently, thanks to Dafi, I've found this forum and ...try to impress my felings in "HELLO" section :) I will be very appreciate for your comments and corrections where and what I did wrong...it is a little bit sad ,that I found this forum too late ,when hull and deck were completed...but OK...most of the part of the rigging still in progress and correction available... Probably soon I'll be need to stop building till september-october...than I see all of you in autumn again All the best Kirill
Thanks , finaly found how to attached pctrs, there are plenty...collected since 2009 will start slowly :) first - are abt when I desided to add some decoration to original kit...saw on contemporary drwngs of the period Armada campaign in 1588, that vessels were more rich decorated <but not only geometrical ornament...still in very big doubt that this combination of colored triangels and "carving" could exist together...on one vessel...but if look at this picture ...may be

continue, this part of building of 2011, I've made some preparation for future rigging...made some changes to channels, fabricated knee and capping strips nails(bolts) securing capping strips to the chanels I imitated by fine-dyspersated building acryl putty(for finish jobs) mixed with acrylic matt varnish- sounds strange ,but this time I had it under hand -remains from my flat repair...but rezults were quite accectable for imitation ....same staff I used to close all gaps on the model - after driying it became quite hard but easy for sanding and painting and didn't shrinkaged chain - I made from appropriate size silver chain blackened by special blackening liquid, ring bolts and rings - made from brass or iron wire and blackened as well Autriger - I did some changes, made from plastic bar and flat pieces + painted to wooden color...still don't know what is construction of this part should be in reality, my idea was -it should be moveable when ness-ry ...for autrigger modernization I added additional grating

this looks really fantastic! It seams that you build a few parts by your own? Did you use other plans than the plans of the kit?
Bye, Joachim
Schöne Grüße Joachim

Good Day, Joachim, Thanks,Yes, some small parts made from plastic waist material- telephone carts and ...I don't remember source - everything that I found around me No other plan specific for this model I didn,t find...original wooden model(prototype of this plastic kit I don't like too much) ...so let say - all changes -my speculation abt Spanish galleon...but acctually information to choose which changes need to be done - most of them from contemporary drwngs of galleon, most of them Dutch artists...and there is funny situation when spanish galleon became looks like dutch And of couse for refference and found ideas - books: Historic Ship Models - Wolfram zu Mondfeld, Peter Kirsch The Galleon the great ships of the armada era, Risse von Schiffen des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts - Rolf Hoeckel, TudorWarships+ElizabethIsNavy, Cassell & Co. Galleons and Galleys, New Vanguard -Spanish Galleon 1530-1690, Armada campaign 1588, Het_schip_van_Willem_Barents_-_A.J._Hoving, The Royal Warship Vasa,VOC-Schiff.1603 Models : this, famous one - Flemish Galeon 1593, I saw it on this forum ...already many years I remains under impression of it!and model from the same plastic kit, model which remains for many years bible for me - Santissima Madre 1607 http://www.wettringer-modellbauforum.de/...antissima+madre drwngs which were very usefull for me for some details construction ,but unfortunately I dodn't know author(?Cor Emke?) -find them in internet in superior quality: VOC-Schiff.1603 Zeehaen fleit 1639 Heemskerck 1638 in short this my model mostly visual interpretation than kind of historic reconstruction of spanish galleon...I did nothing with hull appearence exept bow figure, roughly say ,the rest -just matter of painting jobs as I feel itI 'd like it looks like, in common, as spanish galleon I posted in the begining of this story,All the best ,Kirill
continue with passed stages... after shannels I had idea<that I need ship's bell ...prototype of the bell shape I found in Mery Rose resurch publication, and evidence where it could be installed -on one of the contemporary picture of english galleon, but I supposed that such usefull devise was used not only by english but spanish as well

later on, I continue with attempt to make it more decorated ... again, on the contemporary pictures I saw galleon of that period, especially navy, were quite rich decorated ,not so musch of cause as it was in the middle or the end of 17 century, but tendency already exists as I understood for example this pictire of TRE KRONER1601, difference in 10-12 years I think isn't principal than this heraldic shields...I decided don't remove them due to their decorative effect, but to shnge shape only - made it in spanish style pictures for this shield I combined from spain coat of arms of king Filippe 2 ,printed them out and clued on plastic and coat by matt acrylic varnish Also I found that there was difference in ortodox and catolic style of represent Santissima Madre ,so I changed this icon at the aft screen to correct catolyc style, but I have better picture now,and probably it will be replaced again later on Also I planned to add crucifixion on the fore and grobe masts flagstuff and somewhere on the main deck, this elements need to be presented on spanish galleon as we can see on contemporary drwngs appearence of the sturnplate picture of Santissima Madre I did based on mentioned below fragments aft part of spanish end of 16 ,first half of 17 century

Hallo Kirill It is a pleasure to see that beautifull and detailled modell. It shows very fine carvings and drawings, I like them very much. Also it is an interesting Project an I guess you made a lot of investigations. If I didn't know that it is a plastic-kit I wouldn't believe that.

Dear friends, continue this story...somewhere after hull decoration completion and before start "masting" and rigging ,this small parallel project has happened- galleon's boat.... I guess mainly Due to I was afraid of to start making rigging, which I never did before in such detailed way, and didn't have clear idea how to make galleon sails this boat project acted as training object for me it is almost scratch build, exept hull base - it was from russian plastic kit of Gotta Predistinacia...scale was more or less suitable ...smthn abt 1:100 but even than there is no storage place on galleon's deck for this boat, and I decided to place it near by ... For sail making I used percale soaked in white wooden glue(polyvinylacetate) when it dried -fabric became like a paper , very handy to work with - cutting, cluing, painting but texture remains "fabric" sails making results I found satisfactory ,not 100% as I wanted, but I found the way how to do them in future and later on ,galleon sails I've made more realistic... This boat transom I 've made round which I've found more suitable for galleon's boat, but sails plan I left in dutch style - which I liked more than latin sails...may be it was wrong decision, I don't know...my fairy tale - that this former dutch sloop was cuptured by spanish navy There are two wooden element made frm tooth picboat mast and yard , together with galleon wooden bowsprit ,in this project 3 wooden parts :)
